The black map of racist violence

The black map of racist violence
24 January 2020-2 February 2020

On Friday 24th of January 2020, “X them out – The Black Map of Racist Violence” exhibition returns to Technopolis. During March 2019, more than 3,000 people stopped by the first exhibition, organized in the framework of the “X them out” campaign, affirming with their presence that racist violence concerns us all, and ought to be brought to light.

Ever since, the campaign has travelled to many places in Greece, where incidents have also been recorded, in order to further disseminate the information, while also keeping in mind that racism as well as the manifestation of an extreme attitude towards persons, is certainly not peculiar to any given city but has been a generalized practice in Greece. Unfortunately, incidents still occur and are recorded to this day.

From Athens throughout Greece, and with the courtroom as its final destination, during the Golden Dawn leaders’ pleas, the campaign has illustrated 100 attacks throughout Greece, trying at the same time to bring out their affinity with the assault squads and practices of the Golden Dawn. The last act was our invitation towards visual artists in Greece and abroad, to sketch the main defendants in the Golden Dawn trial, in July 2019.

Both the attacks and the pleas have been printed in the homonymous album “X them out – The Black Map of Athens”, published by Topos Books. The album has been available in bookstores since the end of November 2019, and the public can also acquire it during the exhibition. All proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to the civil action lawyers in the Golden Dawn trial.

*The campaign and every other action performed in this context are a joint initiative of HumanRights360 and the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation.
