Children Cast Adrift – Greece

The exclusion and exploitation of unaccompanied minors (UAMs)

The research “Children Cast Adrift: Exclusion and exploitation of unaccompanied minors (UAMs) in Greece, Spain and Italy” sheds light on the darkest part of refugee management: unaccompanied minors. This report captures information on the protection of unaccompanied minors in the European South and provides a critical account of national and European policies and their implementation. The research is based on interviews with professionals working with unaccompanied minors as well as policy papers, regulations and laws, and records evidence of the impact on minors of inadequate and malfunctioning protective systems and their social exclusion. The Greek part of the research is signed by Elina Sarantou (HIAS Greece) and Angeliki Theodoropoulou (Greek Refugee Council).
